IMPROVED traceability of drilling fluid test results is provided by the MudChecker analyser, now available from Salunda Ltd.
The first handheld instrument of its type, this compact tester is used on a drill site, in a mud plant or a mud lab to provide rapid and consistent data about the mud properties that is critical to fast, safe and accurate drilling.
Advanced sensor technology avoids the need to wait several hours to complete a retort and titration mud check, saving time in the process, boosting the capacity for repeated checks while enhancing productivity levels.
Using MudChecker, data is logged along with a date and time stamp electronically, avoiding any requirement for results to be recorded manually. This ensures that the data from every well and sample is recorded automatically after testing, enabling drilling engineers to show traceability in the event of an audit.
The data captured can be quickly up-loaded via a USB interface to a supporting software programme and can be exported for formal record keeping and reporting.
The ability to input a mud ID, which automatically tags results during site drilling operations, also provides time and cost saving benefits when contractors revisit a site. Utilising the data, they will know the composition of the previously used drilling fluid and may use it to help decide what is required now.
MudChecker’s consistent and repeatable results can be quickly recalled to indicate percentage oil, solid and water volumes. It also records the oil/water ratio (OWR), oil/brine ratio (OBR) and water-phase salinity. Control of these parameters can be critical for kick detection, as well avoiding wellbore collapse, that might otherwise result in equipment loss or damage, and non-productive time (NPT).
MudChecker comes in a water and solvent resistant rugged enclosure for improved onsite durability and features robust, easy-to-clean stainless steel probes with no moving parts. Salunda’s propriety software is available to log, export and print-out results quickly and accurately.
The compact analysis unit is supplied as part of a lightweight portable test kit that includes two small probes shields, a large probe shield, a sample pot, cleaning cloth, USB charging lead, and a software CD.
